What is ultrasound?

Ultrasound is the general term for a non-invasive painless test that uses high-frequency sound waves to image blood vessels including arteries and veins. This is achieve with the aid of an ultrasound machine that uses high frequency sound waves to create images of the human body. The technique is non-invasive, meaning that it doesn’t penetrate the patient’s body – and is considered to be very low risk.
